Three centuries ago, a pivotal chapter in the history of the Ambat family unfolded with the bold decision of a young man named Ramachan (Ramachandran). He became the first member of the Ambat lineage to depart from the ancestral village of Ayilur and establish roots in Chittur.
The journey began when Ramachan received a generous gift from the Variath Karanavar – a sprawling forest land in Kuttipallam. This gesture was in recognition of Ramachan's assistance in settling the outstanding taxes owed by the Karanavar. With determination and diligence, young Ramachan transformed the forest into fertile land, thereby expanding his holdings across Chittur.
Through tireless efforts, Ramachan not only cultivated the land but also amassed significant wealth in the surrounding areas. This newfound prosperity laid the foundation for the construction of the illustrious Ambat Tharavad, a symbol of the family's legacy and influence in the region.
Ramachan established his residence in Chittur, accompanied by his sister Naku and brother Chippukutty Menon. They welcomed into their family a girl named Ittichhari, whom they adopted. Ittichhari later had a daughter named Choronamma, who, in turn, had five daughters: Thulu, Kunju, Aemeru, Kalyani, and Ikkali.
As time passed, the family expanded, leading to the formation of three distinct Thavazhis.
Thavazhi A comprised Kunhilakshmi, Ammu, Janaki, Ammalu, Parvathi, Ammu Muthi, Bhargavi, and Rukumini.
Thavazhi B, further divided into subgroups, included A- Theyi with members B. Kurumba, Ikkali, Narayani, and Ammini; and B.1 with members Meenakshi, Kamakshi, Koma, Parvathi, Ammini, Devaki, Muthu, Visalakshi, Rugmini, and Thathha, along with five daughters and one named Malu.
Thavazhi C comprised descendants of Naku and Chippukutty.
